Method
General Tidy-Up
Begin by organizing the bathroom. Put away toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other items that are out of place. This creates a clean slate for the rest of your cleaning tasks.
Dusting
Dust all accessible areas starting from the highest points and working your way down. Use a microfibre cloth for most surfaces and a feather duster for hard-to-reach areas.
Surface Cleaning
Wipe down all surfaces from top to bottom. Use a glass cleaner spray for mirrors and a general cleaner for other surfaces. Don’t forget to clean the exterior of cupboards and any cabinet knobs. Pay attention to the details, like the toothbrush holder.
Sink and Limescale
Clean the sinks and taps. If there’s limescale, use a remover like Viakal. Spray, wait a few minutes, then rinse off and buff dry. Avoid using limescale removers on sensitive materials like marble.
Bath and Shower
Clean the bath and/or shower. Spray shower screens and bathtubs lightly with limescale remover, rinse, then use a glass cleaner for a streak-free finish. Wipe the bath with a bathroom cleaner, rinse thoroughly, and remove any watermarks or residual product. Clean taps and shower heads with limescale remover if necessary.
Toilet Cleaning
Apply toilet cleaner under the rim and let it soak for a few minutes. Scrub the inside of the toilet with a toilet brush, then flush. Wipe the seat, hinges, cistern, and flush handle with antibacterial spray. Use a separate cloth for the toilet and consider color-coding your cloths.
Final Touches
Empty the bathroom bin and replace the bin bag. Ensure all surfaces are tidy and bottles are straightened.
Floor Cleaning
Vacuum or sweep the floor, lifting bins and other objects to clean beneath. Work left to right and back to front, reaching all corners. Fill a bucket with warm water and floor cleaner. Mop in rows from the back of the room to the front, using a figure 8 motion. Dip and wring the mop frequently to keep it clean.
Finishing Up
Pour the bucket water down a sink or toilet you haven’t yet cleaned. Allow the floor to dry before walking on it. If you’re using the toilet to dispose of the mop water, flush it again afterward to maintain cleanliness.
Cleaning the bathroom thoroughly is essential for maintaining a hygienic and pleasant environment. Starting with a general tidy-up helps create a clean slate for dusting and wiping surfaces. Pay attention to details, such as cleaning knobs and handles, and ensure all areas are addressed, including mirrors, sinks, baths, and toilets. Properly dispose of rubbish and clean the floors last to avoid walking on wet surfaces. Following these steps ensures your bathroom is left spotless and sparkling.
